About Satsuma: Satsuma ware (薩摩焼 satsuma-yaki), sometimes referred to as "Satsuma porcelain, is a type of Japanese earthenware pottery. It originated in the late 16th century, during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, and is still produced today. Although the term can be used to describe a variety of types of pottery, the best known type of Satsuma ware has a soft, ivory-colored, crackled glaze with elaborate polychrome and gold decorations.

Stunning Antique Hand Painted Japanese Satsuma 20 Piece Earthenware Tea Set, Circa1890.This stunning Antique Japanese Satsuma Earthenware Tea Set is highly collectible. It has 20 pieces in all. The set features very intricately and beautifully hand painted scenes of Japanese women, with a golden dragon on top of each large piece. All pieces have the Satsuma pottery mark. The tea pot measures 9" H. The sugar measures 8" H, and the creamer measures 7" H. There are 6 cups and saucers. The salt and pepper measure 2 3/4" H. In Gorgeous condition. Spout on one of the teapots has a small repaired crack and some chipping on dragon teeth, one saucer ans one cup have a chip. One cup has a hairline crack on the inside. There is surface wear on the top of the salt shaker. A photo of the cracks, chips, and surface wear in the ad. Over all this is a beautiful hand painted set. It has been appraised at $7000.00. This would make a great gift for a collector of tea sets or an appreciation for Asian antiques.From a fine non smoking estate. We buy entire showrooms and estates and liquidate them.
